Prayer Request Update 1

We’ve been working on support steadily. We have been encouraged by the progress we have made and all that God has provided. Before Christmas, we had gotten our goal down to $800/month. Unfortunately, since the new year has started, we have become aware of 475 in monthly pledges that we can no longer count on. So it’s two steps forward, one step back.

Our current objective is 1,111 in new monthly pledges (or the equivalent). Please continue to pray for open doors, for Cherie and the kids as I travel.

The Future of the Site
BeyondTheUltimate.org will eventually be retooled to feature athletes and coaches for particular events such as March Madness, the Olympics, the World Series and other major sporting events.

The Bismarck

Isaac has taken a fascination with World War II naval battles. He has already checked out all the books in the library (children’s section) on WWII. Recently, he drew some of his favorite battleships.

Particularly, the HMS Hood which was sunk by the German Battleship Bismarck (pictured on the right). And then, of course, the HMS King George V, which was part of sinking the Bismarck.

934 Indicate a Decision to Trust Christ

On Friday, February 2, Campus Crusade placed a full-page, color advertisement in the USA Today Super Bowl special section as part of the Beyond the Ultimate outreach.

I mentioned it last week in my last entry, “Super Bowl Sunday.”

So far here are the results:

Visitors who indicated that they received Christ – 934

Super Bowl Sunday

On Sunday, February 4, millions of sports enthusiasts around the world will tune in to watch the ultimate game in professional football as Tony Dungy’s Indianapolis Colts face Lovie Smith’s Chicago Bears.
Today, February 2, Campus Crusade has placed a full-page advertisement in the USA Today Super Bowl special section. The ad features both head coaches and points readers to a special Web site, www.BeyondTheUltimate.org.

The Web site features articles and streaming video from players and coaches who share their stories and talk about their faith in Jesus Christ. Additional articles and a clear presentation of the gospel create multiple opportunities for site visitors to learn how they can begin a relationship with God and receive God’s love and forgiveness.

You may view the ad online at our friends website. Her team has been a part of this effort.

Our house in France

For fun we looked up our house in France on Google Maps.

I was surprised to see that the satellite image was taken during the time that we lived there. You can see two houses up against one another in the center of the image. Our house is the lower (southern) one.

We know this is when we lived there because the blue van parked in front of our drive was our blue van. There is also a small inflatable pool in the back yard and the green “canopy” by the back porch, and the white picnic table and chairs on the porch. These were our things. I estimate the picture is from 4 or 5 years ago. It’s amazing that you can see all this via satellite.

There are some other views that show more surroundings in our photo library.

World’s Strongest Dad

Someone forwarded this story to me. I thought it was pretty amazing. As much as I love everyone of my kids, I am awed by the commitment of Dick Hoyt to his son. Salute to both Dick and Rick for their courage and perseverance.

Here is an introduction to the video and their story:

Dick and Rick Hoyt are a father-and-son team from Massachusetts who together compete just about continuously in marathon races. And if they’re not in a marathon they are in a triathlon — that daunting, almost superhuman, combination of 26.2 miles of running, 112 miles of bicycling, and 2.4 miles of swimming. Together they have climbed mountains, and once trekked 3,735 miles across America.

It’s a remarkable record of exertion — all the more so when you consider that Rick can’t walk or talk.

For the past twenty five years or more Dick, who is 65, has pushed and pulled his son across the country and over hundreds of finish lines. When Dick runs, Rick is in a wheelchair that Dick is pushing. When Dick cycles, Rick is in the seat-pod from his wheelchair, attached to the front of the bike. When Dick swims, Rick is in a small but heavy, firmly stabilized boat being pulled by Dick.

At Rick’s birth in 1962 the umbilical cord coiled around his neck and cut off oxygen to his brain. Dick and his wife, Judy, were told that there would be no hope for their child’s development.
